Thursday Theatre at your local.

Return to the Stage.

An idea that moves STC’s latest productions away from the limitations of the theater and into the more accomodating arms (and chairs) of the hospitality industry.

Insight: Even with Australia’s advanced response to Covid, the Sydney Theatre Company is still reeling thanks to seating limits that continue to loom large.

How It Works: The Sydney Theatre Company is renowned for its standard of offerings. Unfortunately - reputation or not - the company is also now plagued by covid-related seating limitations.

To counteract this we’re going to take the words of Shakespeare on board and show that all the world truly is a stage as we bring our productions direct to the punters. Here, we’ll run a series of events at hospitality venues around Sydney as we make use of the bigger venue limits found within.

And rather than feeling limited by the lack of adaptability a lot of these venues possess, we’ll instead ensure each production is staged somewhere that best suits them. For example, Martin McDonagh’s Hangmen (which is set in a pub) would be playing at your local, while Edward Albee’s Seascape would be playing at beachside establishments like The Newport.

More relevantly, STC’s latest offering Playing Beatie Bow would be the perfect introduction to this concept as it tells a story set all around Sydney. Indeed, what better set than Sydney itself.
